Brooklyn nine-nine is a long running tv show about a precinct in Brooklyn, the story is about many different detectives and their captain, you see episodes play out in a sitcom setting while they solve crimes or have problems which always have elements of comedy in it.
The characters are fun and well written all possessing different traits which makes their interactions funny and interesting. Brooklyn nine-nine has some iconic moments and a really strong cast with some very good cameos along the way and a strong storyline.
The storyline
The story starts with the ninety ninth precinct that just got appointed a new captain. This captain is Captain Holt and he is played by Andre Braugher, who plays a very stern gay captain who just got given his first command. He wants to do a good job and so he pushes his detectives to do a better job and starts to connect with them.
Through the seasons the squad face many adversities such as: going undercover, hiding from a mafia boss, talking down an active shooter and many more, all while struggling with relationships and life.
You see the story of all the characters pan out the main ones more so than others and it’s really wholesome and fun to see these characters grow.
A comedy at heart
The series definitely has some serious undertones but at heart it’s a comedy series, this is easy to tell by the way the characters interact, the funny remarks and the jokes that are made. The cop elements blend well with the funny situations and the writers did a good job making up funny scenarios. But the show also does the serious situations well as the tension is well build up and used to create scary moments or sad moments that makes you feel totally enveloped in the story. The cast is also one of the things that makes the show such a success, the main characters include some very well written characters such as, Jake Peralta a childish detective who loves solving puzzles, Charles Boyle a grinder who is not very physically gifted, Amy Santiago a very competitive detective who is somewhat of a teachers pet, Terry Jeffords a sergeant who’s love for his daughters is only equaled by his love for yogurt, and many more interesting characters.

This show is a great watch with a fun and interesting underlying story. It definitely holds up to other great sitcoms like Friends and How I Met your mother.
